Which vehicles can the application value?

Portfolio Valuations data sets include the most accurate possible data available for each vehicle type, allowing the maximum possible valuations from source data as published in standard cap hpi products & data. If a valuation cannot be provided for any reason then our Consulting team may be able to provide you with a bespoke valuation for the vehicle(s) in question. Please speak to your account manager for more information.

If we are unable to provide a value for a vehicle because the data for the specific year/plate is not held in our datafiles then the application will provide an estimated value based on any earlier or later plates for the same cap id with year/plate adjustments applied.

There are occasions when a vehicle is registered outside of the date range that the manufacturer advised the vehicle is considered ‘In Production’ In these cases the vehicle will not be considered eligible for reports. By checking the report options 'Try to estimate values of early or late registered vehicles' (in the Settings Page) it is possible to include such vehicles, as well as define the number of days either before the first or after the last date of production before a vehicle’s registration date is considered to be a discrepancy.

Vehicles under 12 months

New Vehicle Forecast values for LCVs, HGVs and bikes have a minimum forecast period of 12 months. To values cars under 12 months old, the application uses the cap hpi Short Term Forecast dataset.

To calculate values for LCVs, HGVs and bikes under 12 months, the application uses the following method.

If the vehicle is present in Used Values, a straight-line depreciation is applied between the current Used Value and the 12 month Used Forecast value.

For example, if the current used value is £6000 and the 12 month forecast value is £5000, the 6-month forecast is £5500.

If the vehicle is not present or valued in Used Values, a percentage adjustment is applied to the 12 month Used Forecast price.
Values from 11 to 6 months are each 1.5% higher than the previous month.

For example, if the 12 month Used Forecast price is £5000, the 11-month forecast is £5000 + 1.5% = £5075.
The 6-month forecast has the 1.5% increase compounded 6 times so the value is £5475 (to nearest £25). Values from 5 months to 1 month are each 1% higher than the previous month. Therefore, in the previous example, if a 5-month forecast was required, the value would be 1% higher than the 6 month value (£5525 to nearest £25).

Year/Plate Adjustments

Cap hpi provides the official sale dates for UK vehicles. Valuations are therefore only provided for vehicles registered within these dates.

Customers may have registered vehicles outside these official dates, for example run-out models. Therefore, users have the ability within the application to define the periods outside the official sale dates that they wish to use in the analysis, to obtain values for these vehicles.

There is a preference within the “Settings” option which allows you to specify how many days before Introduced date and after Discontinued date you wish to value your vehicles – with a maximum of 600 days.
